I’ve been really into jazz and blues this month.
For jazz: Chet Baker, Miles Davis, Maynard Ferguson (one of my favorites), Aaron Copland (which is pretty classical, but he’s the grandfather of jazz), Thelonious Monk, and John Coltrane (which isn’t a very good artist to start with, he’s pretty wild/chaotic. Best to get a good understanding of the basics first.)
Blues: Of course, Robert Johnson (my favorite), Albert King, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Jimmy Reed, some Eric Clapton.
Those are what I’m listening to now. The stuff on my iPod ranges from Run-DMC, to Bach, to The Clash, to Bon Iver, The Smiths, Sun Kil Moon (another recent find), Buddy Holly, Al Green, Arcade Fire, Johnny Cash, Daft Punk, Georgia Satellites, David Bowie, Parliament, Velvet Underground, etc.
But of course, Bob Dylan is my favorite anything of all time.
